Elevate your program with a departmental membership.
The SfAA announces a new departmental membership category, designed to support the growth and engagement of your faculty and students.
By integrating the Consortium of Practicing and Applied Anthropologists (COPAA) as a permanent standing committee, we can now deliver a suite of resources directly to your department. This new membership will equip your faculty with advanced training and offer your students professional support in all aspects of what we do at the SfAA. All of this is available at a deeply discounted rate, making it a valuable investment in your department’s future.
Unlock a new level of support.
Your departmental membership provides a comprehensive bundle of resources and professional programming, including:
- Faculty development: Training, resources, and community-of-practice sessions to guide departmental growth and development.
- Student empowerment: Benefits that support student participation and enhance their professional readiness.
- Recruitment advantage: Tools to help attract students to both your programs and foster the development of the next generation of applied and practicing anthropologists.
Two membership options, tailored for your needs.
No two departments are alike; therefore, we’ve designed two distinct membership categories to meet varying needs and goals.
The SfAA COPAA Department Fellowship is for departments who want to advertise their training programs as part of the SfAA Annual Meeting, while the SfAA COPAA Department Member option is for departments who would like to bundle exclusive resources for faculty and students without the training program advertising options. See what’s included below:

How does this proposal advance SfAA Mission and Priorities?
By combining several products departments already purchase—such as the training program, exhibit advertising for the Annual Meeting tote bags, and COPAA membership—we can create a more comprehensive offering that includes additional features not previously available. While some departments may currently pay for one or two of these features, bundling them at a slightly higher price will provide greater overall benefits.
The new membership categories support several of the SfAA’s key priorities:
- Creates funding incentives to increase the representation of social scientists and students, promoting inclusivity in all SfAA activities and initiatives.
- Offering departments expanded opportunities for participating in the Annual Meeting and other SfAA events and activities, and offering students discounts for attendance and membership.
- Provides resources and opportunities for professional development, such as workshops, training programs, and mentorship.
- Forges stronger partnerships with member departments, expanding SfAA’s reach and impact by collaborating with both practitioners and academia.
- Creates a new funding stream to support COPAA activities and helps to secure the organization’s financial future.
The universities listed below demonstrate enhanced commitment to applied anthropology and to SfAA as departmental members.
