Annual Meeting

This varies by location; they range from 1,500 to 2,000.

The recommended dress code is business casual.

Yes, both students and non-students can register and attend the Annual Meeting even if they are not members of SfAA, although non-member rates are higher.

Yes, SfAA provides a number of different Student Travel Awards to help students attend the Annual Meeting. All Student Travel Award info is found here.

Yes, in order to receive accommodations, please complete and submit an Access Service Request before October 15th. In support of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the SfAA and its contracted facilities will accommodate reasonable requests for accessibility to the extent possible. The Access Service Request form may be found here.

Registration

Yes, if you register by October 15th, you will receive a discounted rate.

2027 AM rates

No, you do not need to sign up for individual sessions; however, you do need to register for workshops and pay the additional registration fee.

Yes, there is a day rate if you are only attending one day.

Yes, you can register at the meeting itself by paying at the registration desk.

Yes, the registration fee (minus $25 processing fee) will be returned upon request up to January 31.

Travel & Lodging

Yes, everything you need to plan your visit to this year’s Annual Meeting, including hotel information with rates, can be found here.

We recommend booking your hotel in November or December, as our host hotel tends to fill up quickly. All hotel and travel info is provided here.

Presenting & Abstracts

Acceptance notices are sent out by December 15th. If you did not receive an acceptance notice, please check your junk or spam folder in your email. You may also contact Melissa Cope at melissa@appliedanthro.org.

SfAA provides a projector, screen, and Bluetooth speaker in each meeting room. Presenters need to bring their own laptop. To save time, please compile all presentations on one laptop or USB. Microphones are only available in larger rooms. For video presentations, we’ll supply the equipment, but you’ll still need your own laptop. Wi-Fi bandwidth varies by hotel and isn’t guaranteed in meeting rooms.

Yes, many papers and presentations are virtually accessible. You can also submit your own work and virtually present at the meeting through a pre-recorded presentation, but remember that you still need to register for the meeting. We are not able to support livestreaming presentations.

Schedule

The preliminary program is posted online by December 23rd. The official schedule is not finalized until three weeks before the meeting.

Networking & Activities

Yes, the Annual Meeting includes social events, Topical Interest Group (TIG) meetups, student mixers, and more. These are great ways to connect with fellow attendees.

Yes, you can sign up for various tours on the SfAA website or in person at the registration desk. We also have dining recommendations for restaurants near the hotel at the registration desk.

Membership

Sustaining Fellow ($195)

Applicants for Sustaining Fellow status must have an advanced degree or present evidence of experience in the application of the social/behavioral sciences to contemporary issues.  Applications for this category of membership must be approved by the Board of Directors of the SfAA. Fellows are eligible to be candidates for election to the offices of the Society and to serve on the standing committees.

Fellow ($155)

Applicants for Fellow status must have an advanced degree or present evidence of experience in the application of the social/behavioral sciences to contemporary society. Applications for this category of membership must be approved by the Board of Directors. Fellows are eligible for election to the offices of the Society and to serve on the standing committees.

Regular Member ($125)

This category of membership is open to persons who have an interest in the application of the social and behavioral sciences and the activities of the Society. Regular members are eligible to vote in the election for officers and on proposed revisions of the bylaws.

Student ($65)

Persons enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs may apply for this category of membership. Student applicants must provide evidence of current enrollment. Student members are eligible to vote in the election for officers and on proposed revisions of the bylaws.

Emeritus Fellow ($80) and Emeritus Member ($65)

Fellows and members who attain the age of 65 or who retire are eligible for this category of membership.

Joint Fellow ($90) and Joint Regular ($65)

Fellows and members who share the same postal  address are eligible for this category of membership.

Your membership will expire one year after the payment was made.
