Augusta Herman is a doctoral student in Applied Anthropology at the University of South Florida whose work examines the intersections of policy, migration, and health. Her research interests are shaped by several years working for local public health and earlier ethnographic fieldwork in Haiti, experiences that deepened her interest in how structural factors impact community wellbeing. Her current project focuses on Haitian communities in the United States navigating the loss of protective immigration statuses and other enduring forms of precarity. This work will serve as the foundation for her dissertation research, which aims to advance understandings of migrant mental health and contribute to more equitable, community-grounded approaches to care.
