Ilandra Guadalupe Maldonado is currently an undergraduate student in the School of Public Health,  University of Puerto Rico, Medical Science Campus. Ilandra is commitment to further educate others and acknowledge the persistent impacts that colonialism, environmental racism and militarism have on community. This commitment serves as a driving force in Ilandra’s advocacy work, notably as member of two women-led organizations. These organizations actively strive to dignify life for women and all communities through local social justice education surrounding demilitarization and food-sovereignty through agroecological practices respectively. Environmental health is a human right, and as part of Ilandra’s human rights advocacy, recently co-chaired a national press conference. During this event, we reported the admission by the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights of a public claim for the environmental and public health damages inflicted in the hands of a force military occupation. This landmark case underscores the need for an adequate response to address the complexities of displacement and damage to residents health.
