Katelyn Sloan

Katelyn Sloan is a junior at Christopher Newport University. As she works on her undergraduate degree, she is studying Sociology with a concentration in Anthropology and double minoring in African American Studies as well as Women and Gender Studies. She plans to continue scholarship with the intent to continue to do research in Graduate school on the African American community. In the summer of 2021 Katelyn participated in a selective program at Christopher Newport University called Summer Scholars. In doing this she worked alongside Dr. Andria Timmer and a resettlement organization to learn more about refugees and how they resettled into their community. Katelyn is currently working on a book review for Afropolitan Projects with another Anthropology professor at Christopher Newport University, Dr. Seth Palmer. Later in the year Katelyn intends to travel and do study abroad in South Africa to extend her knowledge surrounding African culture and the way it affects the African American community today.
