Telling Our Own Stories: Community-Driven Research of the Theodore Roosevelt School

This project exemplifies a participatory, community-driven approach to interpreting boarding school histories. Led by the White Mountain Apache Tribe’s Tribal Historic Preservation Office in partnership with the Nohwike’ Bágowa Museum and collaborating anthropologists, the project recorded the voices of 26 Ndee elders whose memories illuminated both the hardships of the boarding school experience and Ndee resilience.
