Isabela Pardo is a junior at Pomona College in Claremont, California, majoring in linguistics and minoring in sociology with a focus on sociolinguistics. She was the first recipient of the J. Thomas May Memorial Internship, created to honor the legacy of SfAA’s long-serving Executive Director. Originally from Oklahoma City, Isabela’s heritage includes Latina and Native American roots as a member of the Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Caddo Nations. Her academic interests lie in exploring the linguistic influences of Indigenous peoples on Oklahoma English and the state’s cultural complexity.
