Sol Tax Distinguished Service Award

Sol Tax made significant and innovative contributions to applied anthropology and anthropological societies. In his honor, the Sol Tax Distinguished Service Award is presented annually to a member of SfAA in recognition of long-term, outstanding service to the Society for Applied Anthropology.

Recipients are invited to share brief reflections on their career and service at the Society for Applied Anthropology’s Annual Meeting.

Nominees should have demonstrated lasting, exceptional contributions in several of the following areas:

  • Leadership in organizational structure, activities, or policy development.
  • Key roles in fostering communication across disciplines or subdisciplines.
  • Editing or publishing.
  • Developing curricula in applied anthropology.
  • Establishing ethical standards of practice.
  • Other innovative efforts supporting SfAA’s goals, the field of applied anthropology, and the broader public.

Each nomination should include:

  1. Nomination Letter: A detailed nomination letter describing the nominee’s distinguished service to SfAA.
  2. Curriculum Vitae: A complete CV, with emphasis on the nominee’s service to SfAA.
  3. Support Letter: One letter of support, offering further insights into the nominee’s contributions. Please note: copies of publications or additional letters are not required.

  • The selection committee consists of five members appointed by the SfAA president and executive board.
  • Nominations remain valid for five years.
  • Submission deadline: October 1.
