Launched in September 2026, Dispatches from Applied Anthropology, or Dispatches for short, is the newest publication of the Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA).  It is the official public-facing digital magazine of ideas, impact, and SfAA news.  Whereas Human Organization functions as the flagship peer-reviewed scholarly publication for the SfAA, and Practicing Anthropology publishes longer editor-reviewed works based upon original research, Dispatches from Applied Anthropology serves as a vehicle for public-facing reporting from applied and practicing social scientists.  The magazine advances the SfAA mission by publishing short-form or audio-visual pieces based upon research and practice in the interest of promoting human well-being.  It showcases how anthropologists and the knowledge they produce make a difference in the world.  We produce rolling online publication and triannual curated issues.  As such, it operates with rapid turnaround from submission to publication.

Like the SfAA, Dispatches is open to anthropology (broadly understood) and other social sciences.  Because it is rooted in this history of inquiry, published works necessarily considers patterns and differences of how people in different environments participate in dynamic systems that operate on local, meso, and global levels.  Even though works are informed by professional experience, expertise, and authority, the magazine disseminates findings without jargon.  An informed public needs science in accessible language.  Importantly, as a way to promote a social relationships through scholarship, we welcome co-authored pieces.
